Setup does not start due to CD-ROM not accessed in MS-DOS.
Cause:
The CD-ROM cannot be accessed because of an incompatibility between the CD-ROM driver and/or MSCDEX, and the upper memory area.
Solution:
The following task should be performed by a qualified computer technician. Load the CD-ROM device driver and MSCDEX low (in conventional memory).
NOTE: The following task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
1) Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS at the prompt, and press ENTER.
2) Find the line that loads the CD-ROM device driver.
NOTE: Consult the documentation for the CD-ROM drive if you are not sure which device driver is used.
3) Change the 'DEVICEHIGH' command at the beginning of the CD-ROM device driver line to 'DEVICE' (if 'DEVICEHIGH' is used at all), so that the line looks similar to the following:
DEVICE=C:\CDROM\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:MTMIDE01 /T:170,15
(where the particular driver filename used is only an example).
4) Save any changes to Config.sys.
5) Type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT at the prompt, and press ENTER.
6) Find the line that loads Mscdex.exe.
7) Delete the 'LH' or 'LOADHIGH' from the beginning of the MSCDEX line (if there is any), so that the line looks like the following:
C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MTMIDE01 /L:<x>
(where '<x>' is the letter of the last available drive address).
8) Save any changes to AUTOEXEC.BAT, and exit the editor.
9) Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot.
10) Run Windows 95 Setup.
